McAllen TX Orthodontist Dr. Joel Martinez is kicking off a campaign in McAllen to help the local animal shelter. Dr. J will make a donation to the Laurie Andrews PAWS Center for each selfie that is shared online.

He’s inviting everyone to take a selfie and post it online – for a good cause. For each picture shared on social media, Dr. J and his team will make a donation to the local animal shelter, Laurie Andrews PAWS Center.

The selfie obsession has been only increasing since the word was introduced to the dictionary in 2013. Google reported that over 24 billion selfies were uploaded to their photo app in 2015. Every day, people cannot resist taking snapshots of themselves.

Family orthodontist Dr. J decided to use the new selfie craze to help the local animal shelter. If people enjoy taking photos of themselves so much, they will be even more excited to do it for a good cause.

When asked why he decided to make a donation on behalf of each person who shares a selfie, Dr. J explained, “The good people who volunteer their time to help rescue animals have been struggling to maintain basic supplies at the animal shelters. With winter coming up, they need blankets for warmth, chew toys for comfort, and food is always needed.”

He thought of this idea after reading about the rising selfie popularity. “I like taking selfies with my family all the time. I thought, why not make this a fun event where we could share our smiles, and at the same time make those in need smile too?”

Dr. J would love for everyone to participate in the selfie program to help the local community. He decided to call it the “Share a Smile, Make a Smile” program.

Dr. J’s orthodontist office has been providing braces and family dental services to the residents in McAllen for over 30 years. With numerous volunteering events and other community efforts, Dr. J has been featured on CBS, FOX, NBC network news.
