OSHA Data Requirement Beneficial, Says Construction Accident Lawyer
May 29, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com’s Thomas Moverman recently expressed satisfaction with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s move to require new methods of record keeping for construction employers.
The new rule, which will take effect August 10th, indicates that “construction industry employers with between 20 and 249 employees must send data from OSHA Form 300A to the agency electronically.” In addition, “ all industries with 250 or more employees must also include information from Forms 300 and 301,” according to an article by Construction Dive. Despite pushback from the construction industry claiming that publishing the data will expose private company information, agency officials noted that the new record-keeping rules are aimed at prompting construction companies to provide safer work environments for their employees.
The new requirements come just in time. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 933 construction-related accidents in the U.S resulted in a fatality in 2014. That number steadily increased since 2011 when the total reached 781 fatalities. In non-fatal incidents, common injuries have included fractured or broken bones, spinal injuries and brain injuries. There are several different ways construction workers can be injured on the job. Among the most frequent are slips, trips and falls, scaffolding accidents, and falls from ladders.
Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman believes that victims of construction accidents are entitled to the representation and compensation they deserve. The firm has been representing victims of construction accidents for a combined 80 years and, in that time, has helped win over $500 million in settlements. Attorney Moverman has even represented one victim who was awarded $2.6 million after injuring his knee and back in a fall from defective scaffolding. The firm is currently offering free consultations to parties who have been injured in a construction accident. Qualifying individuals may be entitled substantial financial compensation.
