According to a representative of Outside I’m Smiling, But Inside I’m Dying, many young people with learning disabilities experience lowered self-esteem from an early age. As a result, they tend to use coping mechanisms such as obsessive tendencies and performance anxiety—all of which lead to more complex learning disabilities. The Outside I’m Smiling, But Inside I’m Dying brings a number of lawyers, doctors, and behavior analysts together to create a resource where parents and families can seek help for their children.
“Early detection is key because identifying specific learning disabilities requires a carefully implemented multi-step process,” said Moss.
“The objective is to ensure that the child receives the instruction, support and services needed to succeed in school. Timely and efficient evaluation is essential. Because of the detrimental impact of undiagnosed learning disabilities on self-perception, many people with disorders suffer from depression or anxiety.”
At this time, Moss and her team have taken their project to Indiegogo, where they seek the necessary funds to bring the Outside I’m Smiling, But Inside I’m Dying project to life. The funds raised will be used to help young children leave their disabilities behind and positively influence their mental health and self esteem. In exchange for the public’s support, Moss is offering a wide variety of perks, such as scholarships to young people.
