Personal Injury Lawyer Advocates Worker Safety Reforms, Following Florida State University Stadium Construction Accident

July 24, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com‘s Thomas Moverman commented on the need for more stringent safety rules and regulations for construction workers across the country. Moverman stated that each day more and more construction workers sustain job-related injuries that range from those classified as minor to fatalities. He stated that until federal regulators and the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), begin to better cooperate with each other there will continue to be increased risks for injuries and death among construction workers who are some of the most at-risk workers in the country.

One such incident occurred at a construction site in Florida. As per a report by WCTV.com, 2 workers were injured while on the job at Doak Campbell Stadium that had been under construction for almost 9 months. WCTV.com states that a Major in the Florida State University Police reported that 2 workers were cutting construction material on an elevated platform when that material unexpectedly fell to the ground injuring 2 other workers who luckily did not sustain life-threatening injuries.

It should be noted that in 2014, as per the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), almost 3 million workers fell ill or experienced non-fatal injuries as a result of their work conditions. The BLS stated that of the 5,000 work-related fatalities that occurred in 2014, 20 percent of them were construction workers. Of those who suffered non-fatal injuries, 1 in 3 missed at least one day of work but the average number of days absent from work was 9.
