Personal Injury Lawyer Calls For Revisions To Current Construction Safety Regulations After Minnesota Man Killed At Jobsite

July 25, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on statistics released by both the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) as they relate to injuries and fatalities sustained while on the job. As per the BLS, during 2014 there were approximately 5,000 deaths on the job, with the average per week being greater than 92 deaths. Of the work-related fatalities, almost 20 percent were deaths of construction workers, which equates to 900 fatal injuries during 2014.

Additionally, the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) has concluded that the “Fatal Four” is the cause of 58 percent of construction-related deaths. The “Fatal Four” encompasses worker fatalities resulting from falls, electrocutions, being struck by an object, or being caught in or in between an object. The “Fatal Four” took the lives of 518 construction workers during the year 2014.

One such incident happened June 13th as reported by KAALTV.com involved a 28-year old man who was crushed in a trench collapse. The Blue Earth Sheriff’s Department received a call at approximately 2:45 p.m. and upon their arrival, they found the man buried in the collapsed trench. Due to the very unstable conditions of the ground around the trench, it took 5 hours to recover the man’s body. Officials have stated that the man is from out-of-state, but his identity is currently unknown.

Attorney Thomas Moverman of LipsigLawyers.com commented on the accident. He extends condolences to the man’s family and friends and notes that there is no dollar amount that can replace a family member. He is hopeful that federal regulators will make note of this tragic death and other similar incidences to understand the need to further implement rules and regulations for construction workplace safety.
