Personal Injury Lawyer Comments On Union’s Fund For Injured Workers
July 19, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com’s Thomas Moverman commended the union on its efforts to start a fund for two injured workers in a scaffolding accident. Moverman noted that support is much needed for these workers as such accidents become more commonplace.
According to the Southern Illinoisan, Laborers’ International Union of North America Local Union 773 started a GoFundMe account for two members who were injured when scaffolding collapsed on a Herrin Hospital construction site. The workers’ injuries involved several broken bones and will require several surgeries, the article stated.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that in 72 percent of workers that were injured in scaffolding accidents, the accident was caused either by the planking or support giving way, the employee slipping, or being struck by a falling object. These instances can result in multiple injuries including broken bones, impalement, amputations, spinal cord injuries and brain injuries but have also resulted in death. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has set forth criteria for scaffolding with which companies are expected to comply. The standards address various aspects of the scaffolding including strength criteria, the width of walkways, guardrails and spacing between platform units. Scaffolding accidents are among the top most common accidents on construction sites.
“My clients’ lives and families are the most important aspect of what I do. I hope the lawsuits that I bring and the results I obtain will allow them to try to restore themselves both physically and personally,” said Moverman of the firm’s efforts in assisting those who have been affected by work accidents.
