Personal Injury Lawyer Comments On West Virginia Man’s Tragic Death In Ditch Collapse

July 27, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on statistics released by the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) related to on the job accident deaths. OSHA is a federal agency with the job of ensuring the health and safety of over 130 million workers all across the United States. Given the scope of the agency, it is greatly understaffed with only 2,200 inspectors who each have the responsibility of overseeing the lives of 59,000 workers.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that 4,821 workers were killed on the job in 2014. Over 20 percent of those fatalities occurred in the construction industry with 899 fatalities.

Such fatalities, unfortunately, continue to occur. On June 13th a 38-year-old construction worker was killed while he was installing a water treatment system in Preston County, as reported by the Marietta Times. The man was from Strange Creek, located in northern West Virginia. He was pronounced dead after a ditch collapsed, burying him. The accident occurred at the former Decondor Coal Site that was part of a bond reclamation project under the purview of the Office of Special Reclamation within the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

Construction accident attorney Thomas Moverman of LipsigLawyers.com extended his condolences to the man’s family and friends. It is his hope that the June 13th accident and subsequent fatality will serve to highlight the need for enhancing the nation’s construction industry rules and regulations. He also states that there has been an increase in such tragic accidents and without revisions to current safety rules and regulations, incidents such as the West Virginia ditch collapse are bound to continue to occur.

Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman have been representing victims of construction accidents for years. In one case, Attorney Thomas Moverman won a victim $2.6 million for a worker who injured his knee and back in a fall from defective scaffolding. The firm has successfully obtained millions in settlements for those victims and strongly believes in fighting for the compensation victims need and deserve. Lipsig, Shapey, Manus & Moverman is currently looking to assist those individuals who have been injured in a construction accident and qualifying individuals may be entitled to financial compensation.
