Personal Injury Lawyer Encourages Additional Safety Rules, As OSHA Continues To Investigate Danbury Worker’s Tragic Death

July 28, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on statistics released by the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) regarding the number of worker fatalities caused by electrocution. The agency states that 74 construction workers suffered fatal injuries after being electrocuted on the job in 2014. This number is 8 percent of the total number of construction worker fatalities that occurred during that year.

OSHA is a federal regulatory agency that operates in all 50 states through its 10 regional offices and 90 local offices and is staffed with 2,200 safety inspectors. OSHA is responsible for the health and safety of over 130 million workers spread across 8 million various work sites. Given the breadth and scope of the agency’s mission and reach, it can be considered understaffed since each inspector is responsible for the health and safety of 59,000 workers, a daunting ratio.

OSHA has released a statement regarding the death of a Danbury, CT contractor on June 9th, as reported by TheHour.com. The director of the OSHA Southwest CT office has stated that the agency is currently investigating the facts of the case and could last many months since some of the components of the autopsy report could take up to 6 to 8 weeks to complete, such as the toxicology report.

Attorney Thomas Moverman of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, & Moverman addressed the OSHA statement related to the death of the CT contractor. Moverman is concerned with the lack of manpower at the agency and feels it should have enhanced authority. He also thinks there is a need to revise current rules and regulations as they relate to construction workers to better ensure their safety while on the job. Moverman and his firm appreciate the extreme conditions that construction workers work through on a daily basis, and are proud to offer each construction accident victim a free legal consultation.
