Personal Injury Lawyer References Tragic Minnesota Construction Worker’s Death, As OSHA And BLS Release Troublesome Safety Statistics

July 25, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports on a news account by KAALTV.com of a tragic accident at a construction site that resulted in the death of a 28-year old man. The man was crushed when the trench he was working in collapsed. When the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene after getting a distress call at 2:45 p.m. they found the man buried beneath the collapsed trench. Due to the very unstable ground conditions, the man’s body was not able to be recovered for 5 hours. Officials are reporting that the man is from out-of-state, but his identity is still unknown.

Attorney Thomas Moverman of LipsigLawyers.com commented on the accident and expressed his sincere condolences to the family of the victim. He stated that no amount of money could ever replace a human life lost. Moverman is hopeful that federal regulators and others take seriously the need to strengthen rules and regulations that will ensure the safety of the nation’s construction workers and better protect them while on the job so that tragic accidents like this are far less frequent.

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) has indicated that the “Fatal Four” are responsible for almost 58 percent of job-related fatalities and took the lives of 518 construction workers. The “Fatal Four” are the top four causes of death on the job and include fatalities from falls, electrocutions, being struck by an object, or being caught in or in between equipment.

Additionally, during the year 2014, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has stated that almost 5,000 workers died on the job with the average per week being 92 deaths. Deaths of construction workers totaled 900 workers which equate to nearly 20 percent of the total work-related fatalities in 2014.
