Personal Injury Lawyer Responds To Accident Death Of Vermont Construction Worker

July 17, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com’s Thomas Moverman recently responded to the ruling that a construction worker’s death was accidental. Moverman stated that these accidental deaths occur far too frequently and that he hopes the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s investigation leads to answers for workplace improvement.

The Burlington Free Press reported previously that a 61-year-old construction worker who fell from scaffolding died after falling about seven storeys. In a more recent article, the news source stated that the manner of the man’s death was ruled accidental and that he died of blunt force trauma. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and UVM Police are continuing to investigate.

Scaffolding accidents are among the top most common accidents on construction sites. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that in 72 percent of workers that were injured in scaffolding accidents, the accident was caused either by the planking or support giving way, the employee slipping, or being struck by a falling object. These instances can result in multiple injuries including broken bones, impalement, amputations, spinal cord injuries and brain injuries but have also resulted in death. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has, however, set forth criteria for scaffolding with which companies are expected to comply. The standards address various aspects of the scaffolding including strength criteria, the width of walkways, guardrails and spacing between platform units.
