Pharmaceutical Company Facing A New Onslaught Of Talcum Baby Powder Lawsuit Cases

April 12, 2017 – – Health care product and pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson could be seeing more time in the courthouse. A recent onslaught of talcum baby powder lawsuits has surfaced which could mean more jury trials against the company and additional settlements to those affected.

The lawsuits stem from products manufactured by Johnson & Johnson, more specifically its Johnson’s Baby Powder and Shower-to-Shower. Women who used these products for extended periods of time on the genital regions claim that the talc found in those products have led to the development of ovarian cancer.

A spokesperson for TalcumPowder.org says, “These women were told that these products were safe to use on those specific areas. That’s what they were marketed for and as a result of that use, they have developed cancer. Sadly some of these women may not make it to court as their cancer is now terminal.”

To date, Johnson & Johnson has paid out upwards of $200 million to plaintiffs whose cases went to trial. Sources state that the pharmaceutical company has paid millions to plaintiffs outside of court to settle before those cases went to a jury trial.

“The studies are there,” says the representative for TalcumPowder.org. “There are numerous studies, dating back as far as the 1970’s that show that talc can cause cancer. Using talc on the genital region regularly and for a long period of time can put women at a much higher risk of developing this disease.”

Studies show that more than 22,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the United States each year. While it is not known how many of those cases are directly related to the use of talc, there have been a number of case filings against Johnson & Johnson for that reason. Studies do show a higher rate of ovarian cancer development in women who regularly use talc on the genital area; an increased risk of up to 35 percent, which drastically increases the odds of developing this disease.

Johnson & Johnson is currently facing thousands of lawsuits due to their use of talc. Those interested can find more information on the TalcumPowder.org website.
