Pharmaceutical Company Hit With Additional Talc Cancer Lawsuits
March 22, 2017 – – Pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson has been served with even more talc cancer lawsuits, even as a judge in one case cleared the company of any liability. Over the past few years, multiple consumers have filed claims against the company alleging that it has been negligent in informing consumers about the risks associated with its talcum powder products.
“The lawsuits claim that Johnson & Johnson knew full well of the risks associated with using talc based products,” says a spokesperson for a popular resource site, talcumpowder.org. “The claims all stem from the development of cancer in individuals who used popular Johnson & Johnson products that contain talcum powder.”
Lawsuits filed to date claim that products manufactured by the pharmaceutical company, including their popular baby powder and Shower To Shower, have caused cancer in women who used them. The allegations are that the pharmaceutical company knew that there were links between talc and cancer but they marketed the products anyway.
“The company lost the verdict in 2016, losing millions of dollars for three cases,” says the spokesperson. “Since that time, there have been many additional cases filed, all claiming negligence on the side of Johnson & Johnson.”
The spokesperson says that given the popularity of the pharmaceutical company’s products and the number of years that they have been available to consumers, it is very likely that this is not the end of the cases being filed. Consumers continue to file claims even as a jury in Missouri returned a verdict in favor of the company.
A spokesperson for Johnson & Johnson recently stated that the jury acted in a manner that is consistent with the research and clinical evidence which is the result of years of studies that the company has ordered. Despite the latest verdict relieving the pharmaceutical giant of liability in one case, thousands of additional cases are still being tried and more are being added to the dockets on a daily basis.
Experts urge those who have used these products, and particularly those who have shown signs of cancer to speak with an attorney to determine if they have a claim to file. Those interested can visit talcumpowder.org to learn more.
