Philadelphia Courts Schedule Xarelto Lawsuit Meetings For March
March 25, 2016 – – BloodThinnerHelp.com reports on the scheduled meetings to be held in Philadelphia courts concerning the growing lawsuits against Xarelto manufacturers, Johnson & Johnson and Bayer AG. The Philadelphia District Courts have scheduled two meetings for March 21st and 24th to discuss case management procedures for cases included in the Philadelphia mass tort program that was established in January 2015. The tort has reached 620 cases so far.
In addition to the Philadelphia mass tort program, a panel for multidistrict litigation was also created in Eastern Louisiana in December 2014 for federally-filed cases against the manufacturers. An MDL is typically used in situations where several or more similar cases have been filed. It is used to speed up the process for both parties and save on resources so that the cases will move more quickly. MDL No. 2592 has now reached almost 3,000 cases.
Xarelto was approved in 2011 by the FDA for use in preventing blood clots and deep vein thrombosis in patients undergoing knee and hip replacements, atrial fibrillation, and for general use in reducing the recurrence of blood clots, and stent thrombosis in patients with acute coronary syndrome. Thousands of patients who have used the blood-thinning drug have filed claims alleging that the drug causes adverse side effects and that the manufacturers have not properly informed the users. Those patients have claimed to have suffered from injuries including gastrointestinal bleeding, brain hemorrhages, internal bleeding, rectal bleeding, pulmonary embolisms (blood clots in the lung), epidural hematoma, stroke, and heart attacks as a result of the drug.
Attorney Joseph Osborne is working to help ensure that anyone who has taken Xarelto and who has also experienced negative side effects that they attribute to the drug will be given the opportunity to completely investigate their legal rights. These people could be entitled to legal action and significant compensation. Osborne is currently offering complimentary legal consultations to those affected.
