Phoenix Lawyer Jeffrey Phillips Releases Blog Post On Cleaning Up Social Media Accounts

October 30, 2015 – – Phillips Law, a personal injury law firm in Phoenix, AZ, has recently released a new blog post on why clients should clean up their social media accounts. More and more often, social media is being used to investigate a person’s private life, be that to determine whether they are suitable for a certain job or to determine whether any injuries they claim to have sustained are actually as bad as what they say they are. The SMHLawOffice.com of Jeffrey Phillips feels the blog post was necessary due to difficulties clients have encountered that were found to be related to social media.

“Social media is all around us nowadays,” says Jeffrey Phillips from Phillips Law. “The strange thing is that people used to keep diaries, lock them and hide them away somewhere. Today, we keep diaries in public on social media, sharing our deepest secrets and most private details with anybody. Unsurprisingly, people are starting to get into trouble because of this. We felt it was time that we created some information on how to properly use social media and on how not to land into trouble because of it.”

Most people have heard of discovery laws. These laws used to apply to tangible evidence only, such as witness statements, telephone calls, and more. However, the laws have now changed to include social media. In fact, there have been a few cases where someone was convicted based solely on the evidence collected through their social media postings.

“Lawyers aren’t immune either,” adds Jeffrey Phillips. “Some lawyers have posted on their social media that they are unhappy at work. While this isn’t an offense to get fired over, it certainly won’t put you in the firm’s good books either. More worrisome are stories of lawyers who share case information on their profiles. That is in direct breach of data protection and they could actually get disbarred for it.”

Phillips Law has released the information in order to help others use social media properly. The world has become more digital nowadays and new rules have started to apply. Understanding the legalities of social media, therefore, is incredibly important.
