Physical Therapists Get Special Training In Pelvic Floor Problems As Transvaginal Mesh Lawsuit Filings Grow
April 20, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on physical therapists who are now receiving special training to help treat pelvic problems including pelvic organ prolapse, stress urinary incontinence, and pelvic pain. The therapists at Aquacare recently announced that they will be receiving specialized training from Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute to help instruct patients suffering from those conditions learn individualized pelvic floor exercises as well as supply them with biofeedback for muscle re-education, bladder retraining and education on dietary management, according to Delmarvanow.
These types of treatments have offered alternatives to many women who may be considering transvaginal mesh implants to treat incontinence or pelvic organ prolapse. Many other women who have already opted for mesh surgery have claimed to have suffered serious side effects as a result of the devices. Those alleged side effects have included erosion of mesh through the vagina, urinary tract infections, inability to engage in sexual intercourse, organ perforation, bleeding, infection, vaginal scarring, severe pelvic or vaginal pain, vaginal shrinkage, fistulas, need for corrective surgery and neuromuscular problems.
The devices are typically made of a synthetic polypropylene that is surgically inserted to support bulging organs in cases of pelvic organ prolapse or to support the urethra in case of stress urinary incontinence. They were approved by the FDA in 1996 for procedures involving stress urinary incontinence and then later in 2002 for treatment of pelvic organ prolapse. In 2008, the FDA received over 1,000 adverse events reports and has since issued warnings about mesh as well as reclassifying it as “high risk.”
Several thousand cases concerning mesh have already been brought to court and more are expected to accumulate. Meanwhile, attorneys at Banville Law are working to make sure that those who believe they have suffered adverse side effects as a result of a transvaginal mesh implant are given the important opportunity to explore their legal rights fully. Qualifying individuals may be entitled to legal action and financial compensation. Banville Law is currently offering free case evaluations for those parties.
