Rocket League is Coming to China

July 11, 2017 – For two years, players from around the globe have enjoyed the wonders of Rocket League. Who knew that playing soccer with rocket powered cars would become such a hit? However, the game isn’t available to every country in the world, but it’s about to go live in a country with the world’s largest population: China.

Good News for the Chinese Gaming Community
The epic soccer game with slick cars that can fan fly is coming to China. Rocket League developer, Psyonix, is planning to release the game in China. The company has been talking to Tencent, a large publisher to work out a deal, and it seems like Psyonix is satisfied with the agreement. Psyonix will be the developer, but Tencent will publish the game throughout China.

According to the agreement between both parties, Psyonix will still control the game’s development, including Rocket League updates, which ensures that the game remains the same for the rest of the world. However, there’s one exception: the game will switch to a free-to-play version for the release in China. Psyonix has mentioned that Rocket League won’t be pay-to-win, a problem for most free-to-play MMOs.

With the game getting ready to launch in China, a new market for Rocket League Trading will open, with more people to trade, which means greater opportunities to make money. There hasn’t been confirmation on how the free-to-play model will affect items and trading prices, but there’s probably going to be some differences in trading. The item acquisition might also differ. A “cash shop” could be the primary method for getting things since some of the game’s profit has to come from somewhere.

And More Good Things Coming to Rocket League
There’s the anniversary update to look forward to on July 5th and Rocket League’s birthday on July 7th. The update will add new things to the game, such as items, cars, engine sounds, fresh music, and a new arena to all modes called “Champion’s Field.” Also, Rocket League is coming to Nintendo Switch by the end of this year. During the holidays, you’ll be able to bring Rocket League on the go and play with friends or family across platforms.
