Plexure Has Successfully And Safely Filmed The Live-Action Brand Video Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic

Plexure collaborated with Vireo Video to create a successful and hilarious brand video without compromising Coronavirus safety protocol.

 Personalization platform Plexure has successfully and safely filmed the live-action brand video during the COVID-19 pandemic. The process where actors must perform six feet apart and wear masks that hide their expressions is difficult, but not impossible, as Plexure’s new brand video shows and proves.

“We could have gone the animated video route, but we wanted to tell a human story with real people because human connection and emotion are inseparable from our brand,” according to Colin Daymude, Plexure’s Head of Marketing. “Our technology helps create moments of magic between brands and consumers.”

A global pandemic is a uniquely challenging time to film a video with a human cast. Aside from performing six feet apart and wearing masks in the set, showrunners must also manage a full roster of talent and staff while complying with the film industry’s COVID-19 safety protocols.

Plexure has teamed up with Philadelphia-based boutique film company Vireo Films to address both challenges. They did it by asking their talent and crew before the shoot to get tested, if possible. In addition to requiring masks at the set, they had also incorporated temperature checks and offered individually wrapped foods.

Constant communication was also of utmost importance. “It’s a whole other layer of work as a director. I was constantly asking everyone if they were comfortable and if we were asking them to do anything they weren’t comfortable with,” said Dan Angelucci, Vireo Films co-founder.
According to Viero Films’ co-founders, the biggest challenge came in the planning phase, when they decided that no one would need to be unmasked and near each other.

“The plan right from the beginning was to come up with an idea that would be able to be filmed safely, as opposed to retrofitting an existing idea,” said Angelucci. “From that came the idea to shoot everyone separately and composite them in later. This required a lot more planning than we would normally have done, had we had everyone together on set at the same time.”
In addition to ensuring the safety of the cast and crew, the intention of the video was to tell Plexure’s story refreshingly and entertainingly—which is why he chose to hire Vireo Films, according to Daymude. “We decided the best way to serve our audience during the pandemic was to give them a reason to smile,” he said.
