Hackworth, a print services company, has been selected as the 2017 Chesapeake Small Business of the Year. The Hampton Roads Chamber sponsors the competition each year awarding businesses from Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Suffolk.
Hackworth was founded in 1991 by the husband and wife team of Charlie and Dorothy Hackworth and their son Charles. The company is a State-Certified, Small Business (SWaM) that provides a wide range of printing and marketing services, wide format digital imaging and printing systems and supplies, and document management solutions.
“When I first learned that we had won I was proud and excited,” said President Charlie Hackworth. “But the more I thought about it, I became overwhelmed. We are very grateful to our staff, vendors and customers. It is because of them that we have enjoyed success throughout the years.”
Along with the other city winners, Hackworth will be recognized at the Small Business Awards Ceremony at the Chesapeake Conference Center on May 2, 2017. A regional winner will be announced and will go on to represent Hampton Roads in the National Small Business of the Year Competition.
Hackworth specializes in serving the business community of Hampton Roads with professional production of business cards, fliers, brochures, posters, banners, signs, vehicle wraps and many other custom print and marketing solutions. As well, the wide format equipment division is an authorized dealer of HP, KIP, Contex and Colortrac serving the Mid-Atlantic region.
Looking to the future, Hackworth sees growth possibilities in grand format printing which includes prints over 60″ in width up to 120″ in width.
“We keep our eye on 3-D printing,” added Vice President Charles Hackworth II. “That’s obviously something that we see a lot of when we go to shows.”
Initially the company started as a blueprinter only. Now Hackworth does more graphic and color printing work than the traditional business the company was founded on. Hackworth states that close working relationships with businesses is one draw of the graphics industry.
“We’re involved in the beginning of the ideas. A lot of times we get in on the front end and we’re able to help mold the concept, help with the design portion of it, help with the material choices and really get into the process with the client and the designers,” said Hackworth II.
