Private Cosmetic dentist Poised To Become First DSD Dentist In West Midlands

Birchwood Dental Practice is the first digital smile design dentist in the West Midlands. The technology allows dentists to create a prototype of a patient’s future smile.

DSD is a new dental philosophy which uses the latest digital technology to design a dental prototype of a patient’s future smile. The innovative concept combines digital technology, aesthetics and dental expertise to create personalised smile makeovers for patients. Birchwood believes that it represents an innovative example of the future of the dental industry. 

The solution uses digital photography and videos of the patient from all angles, and the smile is assessed while the patient is talking and laughing. As such, it is a completely non-invasive procedure and a casual way of achieving the desired results that many patients crave. Intraoral scanning and CBCT scans alongside digital photography help plan and design aesthetically pleasing smiles.

Once the photographs and videos are collected A smile prototype is created, a very close copy of the future teeth. The prototype is made by placing a digitally designed stent over the patient’s teeth, which is removed immediately after the photos with their new smile have been taken.

Pete Sangha, the principal dentist at Birchwood, has completed a residency course authorised by Dr Christian Coachman’s company, the founder of the ‘Digital Smile Design’ philosophy.

Birchwood has embarked on this venture not as a business challenge but as a means of better serving its patients in the West Midlands: Walsall, Birmingham, and Wolverhampton.

Within one year, Birchwood must prove they are a suitable and valid DSD vendor before DSD accreditation.
