Property Damage Sustained In E-Cigarette Explosion As E-Cig Lawsuit Filings Increase
June 06, 2016 – – LipsigLawyers.com reports that unexpected and harmful electronic cigarette explosions are continuing to occur causing both property damage and personal injury as detailed in a story reported from WSB-TV in Atlanta. In a case of good intentions yielding to tragic results, a Grant Park woman who says she bought an e-cigarette as an alternative to cigarettes in order to help her improve her health wound up almost losing her entire home and pets instead. The report has the woman describing the incident as a loud explosion. She stated that she saw flames extending across her living room.
Left charging in her computer’s USB port, the e-cigarette exploded suddenly, but the woman was lucky enough to be nearby and able to respond to the incident as it happened. Had she been away, she noted, she might have returned home to even more extensive damage. The Grant Park resident envisioned the likely outcome if she had not been able to take action immediately: “I would have lost my dogs,” she remarked, “my cats,” and even “my house.”
A trade association estimate puts the number of e-cigarette devices in use in the neighborhood of 3.5 million. The Atlanta woman is far from the only person to experience a sudden explosion while an e-cigarette was charging. Another similar case involves a retired firefighter, who also had his electronic cigarette charging in his computer when it suddenly exploded. Other users have experienced and reported explosions and flames while carrying the device in their pockets. Each of those instances resulted in injury in the form of serious burns.
