Regulation Revisions Needed, Says Construction Accident Lawyer Following Highway 220 Accident
June 06, 2016 – – Thomas Moverman of LipsigLawyers.com sends his condolences to the family of a 28-year-old male who died as a result of a construction accident in early March. Attorney Moverman pushes for more extensive safety procedures and regulations for construction workers and states that without increased regulation, construction accidents are likely to continue to rise in number, which, as highlighted here, can have devastating effects for workers and their families.
As reported WXII12.com, state labor officials from State OSHA (Occupational Health & Safety Administration) claim that an excavator counterweight struck the victim in Summerfield, North Carolina just before 11 AM. The victim was an employee at Tetra Tech Construction, and his death has since sparked an investigation by State OSHA. Officials with the department of labor believe that the individual walked into the excavators swing radius and was fatally injured.
OSHA has attempted to decrease the number of workplace fatalities by implementing state and local agency branches. However, since 2011, there has been an exponential increase of construction accident fatalities, with the largest rise occurring from 2013 to 2014 which resulted in an estimated 100 additional deaths. Furthermore, another noteworthy statistic is the number of workplaces that OSHA is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of workers in, which exceeds 8 million different worksites. While this responsibility seems plausible for a federally-funded agency like OSHA, bear in mind that each individual compliance officer is thereby responsible for nearly 59,000 individuals.
Attorney Moverman of Lipsig, Shapey, Manus, & Moverman is offering free legal consultations to victims of construction accidents. The firm has had immense success representing victims in the past, with some victims receiving compensation of nearly $20,000,000. Thomas Moverman has articulated that changes must be made in regards to safety precautions, inspections, and workplace procedures in order to provide more extensive support to the hard-working construction workers of America.
