Brisbane Snoring is one of Queensland’s leading snoring and sleep apnea treatment specialists and is proud of their new, cutting-edge technology that can treat snoring or sleep apnea with a pain-free procedure. Unlike many sleep apnea treatment options, Brisbane Snoring provides treatment that integrates laser technology to help eradicate any snoring problems.

Dr Colin Campey of Brisbane Snoring in North Lakes, Brisbane explains “Many snoring treatments on offer today can be either ineffective or else cause pain and discomfort. This inspired us to offer a long lasting, effective alternative”.

Brisbane Snoring was the first clinic in Queensland to offer anaesthetic-free laser treatment for snoring and sleep apnea, allowing people to continue with everyday life after treatment with no need for any downtime. The new treatment is called ‘NightLase’ and requires no surgery, minimising any associated risk factors.

NightLase laser treatment utilises a phenomenon known as “neocollagenesis” which translates into “making new collagen”. Collagen is the protein in the body that is the basic framework for all tissue. The laser procedure is performed on the soft palate and throat, stimulating the production of new collagen in those areas. This makes the throat larger, firmer and less prone to collapse; the laxity in the pharynx (part of the throat) is a common cause for snoring and sleep apnea. During this revolutionary snoring treatment patients will only feel a mild heating sensation as the NightLase procedure causes a contraction of the collagen in the oral mucosa tissue. The treatment takes approximately 40 minutes with patients reporting to have found it to be quite tolerable as there is no surgery performed; there is no damage, scarring or removal of any tissue.

This non-invasive laser treatment was developed s=in 2010 by Fotona Medical Laser (Fotona) in Europe. Fotona reports a high success rate in producing a positive change in sleep patterns for a no surgery or anaesthesia treatment. Their research has found that after two NightLase procedures more than 80% of patients are reporting better than 50% improvement with the average improvement after one treatment being 45% and after the second session 68%. Best results are achieved with a full course of NightLase which consists of three separate treatment sessions over a six week period.

Dr Campey has performed over 400 procedures using the NightLase and says “The worst side effect following a NightLase laser treatment has been a mild sore throat for a day or two. This is a safe, walk-in and walk-out treatment that can improve the quality of life for you and your family. Best of all, NightLase requires no device to be worn during sleep and involves no chemical treatment. It’s a gentle and easy way for my patients to regain a good night’s rest”.
