Risperdal Lawsuit Plaintiffs Raise Public Awareness Of Drug’s Potential Link To Gynecomastia

April 26, 2016 – – LegalHerald.com reports on a lawsuit verdict from last November in a case filed under number 130401990 which discussed antipsychotic drug Risperdal. The lawsuit noted the drug’s potential connection to the development of gynecomastia among male patients. Gynecomastia is a condition which causes the development of significant breast tissue among men. The plaintiff’s claims have been upheld in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s Court of Common Pleas, although, it was noted in a ruling issued on the 10th of March that the Court had awarded a reduced $680,000 in compensation to the plaintiff instead of the originally requested $1.75 million.

Risperdal is manufactured by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, which is a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson corporation. Janssen is now reportedly facing over 1,700 lawsuits concerning Risperdal. The lawsuits have been transferred to a single court and consolidated to form a mass tort program by the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. All cases within the mass tort program have reportedly been filed on behalf of patients who took Risperdal and developed gynecomastia or other adverse events. Plaintiffs involved share claims that these side effects have been caused by the use of Risperdal, and allege that Janssen may have knowingly concealed the drug’s link to certain side effects. In addition, they claim that defendant Janssen was negligent in neglecting to properly warn medical professionals and the general public about potential Risperdal side effects, as stated in Risperdal Litigation case number 100300296.
