Soweto, Gauteng, South Africa – July 19, 2024 —
On the 16th of July, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers Cavalcade launched in Dobsonville, Soweto, bringing vital support and solutions to address the social ills affecting the community, including drug abuse, crime, and more. The Cavalcade’s arrival marks a significant milestone in the Scientology Volunteer Ministers’ mission to uplift and empower Soweto’s community.
With a proven track record of success in South Africa, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers, who have trained almost 30,000 people on their skills development programs in the last 5 years, have been actively involved in community development and social improvement initiatives across the country since 2019. With their rapid response to disasters and implementing community upliftment initiatives, they leave behind a trail of changed lives.
In Meadowlands, Soweto, they empowered Irene Moemise, a young woman who lost her job due to the pandemic, to become an employer and a community leader. Using the Scientology Tools for Life skills, she brought hope and development to the youth of Meadowlands, earning her a recent award for her work in overcoming obstacles and helping others. They now intend to bring these resources to the whole of Soweto.
Despite its rich history and cultural significance, Soweto faces numerous challenges that hinder the well-being of its residents. Drug abuse, crime, and violence have become all too familiar concerns, affecting individuals, families, and the community at large. The Scientology Volunteer Ministers Cavalcade aims at providing practical help and empower individuals, community groups, and civic leaders to tackle these issues head-on.
The Cavalcade was launched at Dobsonville Mall in Soweto; a historical landmark and the first ever mall built in Soweto. The grand opening hosted over 200 guests from local communities to Provincial Government Departments, interfaith sector and beyond, who were all eager to make use of the new installation in Soweto and its array of services, including:
– Drug education and prevention programs
– Conflict resolution and mediation training
– Life skills and personal development courses
– Disaster response and relief services
The first to take the podium was Soweto’s very own Ward Councilor, Ms. Agnes Zazini, who welcomed the VM Cavalcade to Soweto and congratulated the success of the opening. “The Scientology Volunteer Ministers Cavalcade is a welcome addition to our community,” said Councilor Zazini. She was followed by many other officials who shared the same sentiments.
The Dobsonville launch marks a significant milestone in the Scientology Volunteer Ministers’ mission to uplift and empower Soweto’s community. By providing accessible tools and resources, the Cavalcade aims to reduce drug abuse and related crime, improve community relationships and conflict resolution, enhance life skills and personal development and strengthen disaster response and relief capabilities
The Scientology Volunteer Ministers are proud to partner with local organizations and community groups in Soweto to ensure the success and sustainability of their initiatives.
Closing the speeches was Ms. Zodwa Zwane, the former Personal Assistant to Ms. Winnie Mandela and official in the office of the Gauteng Premier. She spoke about the challenges she is addressing in Soweto communities with her Non Profit Foundation and heralded the Scientology Volunteer Ministers as the place where one can find solutions. She said, “The Scientology Volunteer Ministers are a symbol that Something Can Be Done About It and this tent behind me is a resource for our community to take advantage of what the Scientology Volunteer Ministers have to offer in the form of communication skills, conflict resolution and practical tools we can use in the workplace and in ours homes.”
There was a ceremonial ribbon cutting and once the tent was officially opened the public flooded in to tour through the Cavalcade panels and learn all they could about the Scientology Volunteer Ministers program and how they could get involved.
In addition to the launch event, the Cavalcade will also host a series of community workshops and training sessions, focusing on topics such as drug prevention, conflict resolution, and disaster response. These interactive sessions will provide community members with practical tools and skills to address the social issues affecting their lives.
By working together with the community, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers aim to create a brighter, more prosperous future for Soweto by bringing all their range of skills written by L. Ron Hubbard to the community.
