Scottsdale Golf Club Provides Update On Practice Park Remodel and Renovation Project For Its Private Golf Courses

September 20, 2019 – – The Country Club at DC Ranch in Scottsdale, Arizona, has provided some updates on the practice park remodel and renovation project that they started in June 2019 for their private golf courses. The whole 15 acre parcel dedicated to golf practice has already taken shape and it is now all grassed in as of August. Nevertheless, it will only be opened by October 18, 2019 to allow the grass to grow and mature.

The primary goal of this practice park is to allow golf players to practice every phase of the game in order to improve their game. The entire usable envelope has been made approximately 15 acres by using more of the desert area from both the east and west sides of the original range. Meanwhile, the south practice tee has been expanded from both a width and depth viewpoint. The wall of the south tee has been removed and the cart path on the right side of the south tee has been moved to the right to allow 30 practice stations to be usable at the same time.

The whole tee is 50 yards deep by 100 yards wide which is almost the same as the dimensions of a regulation football field. The cart path that adjacent to the south tee is now a few feet wider and has designated parking spaces for easy access to and from the south tee.

The grass throughout the Scottsdale golf club is 328 Bermuda, which has the advantage of staying green for longer in the fall and greening up sooner in the spring. It also has a better playing surface compared to the 419 Bermuda that was previously used.

The south putting only green that is close to the first tee is now nearly triple the size of the original green, having been enlarged to almost 8,000 square feet. There are two separate short game greens measuring 3,000 square feet, each surrounded by two bunkers, with the northernmost bunker doubling as a fairway bunker. The turf in the short game area will be cut at fairway and rough heights. All the short game practice greens will comply with the USGA specifications and the horseshoe greens are legitimate putting surfaces for private golf clubs in Scottsdale.

On the range field there are two fairways that are separated by a bern or mound. The fairway extends from the instruction tee and is narrow for specific driver practice, and the wider fairway extends from the main tee. The Scottsdale Private Golf Courses will have defined practice greens throughout the field at specified yardages in 25 yard increments, with some of the greens fronted by bunkers.

The north and full swing tee was also expanded for both depth and width with targets players working on that end can play to, and the depth and width is 30 by 50 yards. This expanded practice area can accommodate up to 45 players hitting balls at the same time.

The short course is named Horseshoe, based on the loop routing, but it is expected to be fun for every level of player. It will have a total length of 800 yards with the shortest hole at 67 yards and the longest at 117 yards. Each green will have an easy hole location with a 6” cup, but those who want it, a regular 4.25” cup can also be provided. In summary, the Scottsdale Private Golf Courses will be fun but challenging with practice tees closing at 3:00 pm on Wednesday and Sunday, with the Horseshoe opening for all after that.
