Thanks to an adoption of the “mermaid” culture and the interest many have in hunting beaches across the world for glass tumbled and frosted by nature, sea glass art and jewelry has become a cottage industry. Not only is this industry growing significantly today, it is one that’s also quite lucrative for those who gain recognition in the field.

One such artist, Ms. Cathy Kelly, who has been selling her original handmade Genuine Sea Glass Jewelry through the popular artisan marketplace Etsy, recently received a high honor and recognition. Glassing Magazine, the leading magazine for the sea glass community, recently highlighted one of Ms. Kelly’s adjustable sea glass bangle bracelets in it’s extremely popular “Mermaid Issue.”

“I feel honored that one of my creations has made it into this highly anticipated issue,” stated owner of Sea Glass Visions, Cathy Kelly. “My emphasis is on design and attention to detail, always incorporating genuine sea glass. Many of the sea glass pieces used in my collection have been handpicked by me in Maryland, California, along the East Coast, Greece, The Bahamas and in the Caribbean. I also incorporate sea glass from England, Spain, Japan and Puerto Rico in my work.”

Glassing Magazine is known for publishing the best of sea glass artisan work in North America and throughout the world. “The Mermaid Issue” is set to be published in May/June of 2018, which is the edition where Ms. Kelly’s work will be showcased. This special issue features a wide array of art and jewelry items that showcase the “mermaid” culture.

“Creating beautiful sea glass and sea pottery jewelry and art is a passion, as well as a joy for me and I am deeply honored to be recognized in Glassing Magazine,” continued Kelly. “The bracelet picked for the upcoming issue is a bracelet that features a starfish-shaped “Mermaid Soul” charm, an iridescent green mermaid scale charm, and a “made with love” charm. The highlight of the piece is the light green, ultraviolet sea glass, also known as Vaseline Glass, that glows under a black light.”

Sea glass art and jewelry isn’t just a passing trend or fad. While it’s an industry that has been around since the early 1990s, it’s one that has seen steady growth in the past few years, as the demand for unique, personalized items increases. In addition to providing pre-made sea glass creations through her Etsy store, Ms. Kelly also offers custom jewelry creations, designed according to a customer’s specifications and instructions.
