The 2016 MLB season is scheduled to begin on Sunday, April 3 with an afternoon game between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates. These two teams had the best regular season records last year. There will also be a rematch between the Kansas City Royals and the New York Mets, who played in last year’s World Series. The season is scheduled to run through October 2, 2016.

The 87^th Major League Baseball All-Star Game will take place on July 12 at Petco Park in San Diego, California, the home field of the San Diego Padres. The team that wins that game will have home-field advantage at the World Series.

As was the case last year, each team is scheduled to play 19 games against each division (a total of 76 games), as well as six or seven games against each team from the other two divisions, for a total of 66 matchups.

Each team will also play 20 interleague games. The interleague matchups this year will be AL East vs. NL West, AL Central vs. NL East, and AL West vs. NL Central.
