Seattle Hospitals Note More E-Cig Explosion Injuries, Prompts Potential E-Cigarette Explosion Lawsuit Cases

June 20, 2016 – – Attorney Marc Freund of LipsigLawyers.com detailed recent events that have occurred in Seattle and emphasized that e-cigarettes present severe hidden dangers to consumers. Freund wishes all of the individuals who have been affected by e-cigarettes in Seattle a speedy full recovery and hopes that each victim seeks legal justice for their damages. Freund notes that the contents of a local news report are troublesome, and include a statement from a local Seattle doctor that “Since March, the hospital has seen at least 2 e-cigarette explosion cases a month.”

According to a local report from the Seattle Times, there have been at least 14 victims who have been treated or hospitalized since the fall of 2015. Most recently on June 5th, a local Kirkland man was severely injured as a result of his e-cigarette exploding in his back pocket. Regrettably, the local man sustained third-degree burns to the back of one of his legs and is most likely going to need skin grafting and surgery. There have already been 2 victims of e-cig explosions that have been treated at Harborview Burn Center in June alone.

The prevalence of e-cigarette explosions has increased rapidly since the devices hit the market in 2007. From 2009 to today there have been 199 reported e-cigarette explosions, moreover, there have been 77 in 2016 already, which is 30 more than 2015’s total. E-cigarette explosions have occurred all over the United States, Europe, and Asia, however, nearly 30 percent of all reported e-cig explosions occurred on the West Coast of the U.S., totaling 58 incidents since 2009.

These explosions have occurred in a wide array of ways, including exploding while in use, during charging, or in a consumer’s pocket. Typical injuries include severe burns, cuts, lacerations, and in some cases, victims have sustained impaired vision, temporary blindness, and or mutilated limbs.
