SeavisTours’ Sustainable Tourism Goals For 2016 Announced
January 15, 2016 – – SeavisTours, a very popular excursion company located in Bayahibe (Dominican Republic) and serving as a leader in eco-tourism in said country, has announced its sustainable tourism goals for 2016. For one, they will keep on sponsoring the Sea Turtle Conservation Project on Saona Island. Through their support, the project has been able to access both funds and tools in order to carry out their activities to protect these gorgeous, endangered creatures. As can be seen on the SeavisTours website, this is just one of the many initiatives the company is engaged in to achieve its sustainable tourism goals for 2016. The Sea Turtle Conservation Project can be visited by SeavisTours’ clients as it is one of the stops of the Saona Crusoe VIP excursion – SeavisTours most popular trip.
SeavisTours is involved in a number of other sustainable tourism projects as well. One of these is the Padre Nuestro village giveaways. Various SeavisTours’ clients bring clothes, school supplies and other goods to the office. Once sufficient donations have been collected, these are distributed in Padre Nuestro, which is some ten minutes away from Bayahibe.
They also own two properties in the El Gato village area, as showcased on the SeavisTours Facebook page. Many of the residents of this village are employed by SeavisTours on the farms, which helps to actively sustain the village. The El Gato farm offers a way for the company to ensure the continued survival of various endemic plants, including cocoa, coffee, banana, pineapple and bromeliads. It also promotes the conservation of animal life, with iguanas, tarantulas, boas, parrots and butterflies all taking up home there.
Kirsten Tilanus, manager of SeavisTours, says: “We are committed to be an active part of the community we operate in. For 2016 we plan on initiating more ecological and social projects to promote sustainable tourism.”
In Bayahibe itself, SeavisTours sponsors a variety of community events. These include the Lion Fish fishing competition, the International Coastal Clean Up Day activities, and fishing tournaments. For 2016, the company aims to be even more involved by also spearheading a number of these activities. The goal is to bridge the gap between tourism entities and to support the local community while conserving the environment. The company believes that they should lead by example and they are hopeful that other companies in the tourism sector will join forces with them and aim for similar results. In so doing, the natural beauty of the Dominican Republic and surrounding islands and areas will be maintained.
