As a spokesperson for Watershed Collaborative noted, this upcoming project is already creating quite a buzz in the education and higher learning spaces.
“Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) is a simple yet profound discussion facilitation technique with which students and teachers collaboratively explore rich visual art through open inquiry and the consideration of multiple possibilities,” the spokesperson said, adding that through VTS, students learn to think critically and creatively, pair reasoning with evidence, and confidently elaborate complex ideas.
“With VTS and Watershed’s state-of-the-art professional learning features, teachers are better able to meet the demands of new standards and expectations while simultaneously meeting the individual needs of their students.”
Watershed Collaborative prioritizes affordability so that any teacher working in any socioeconomic context can access resources and implement practices on par with what the best schools in the country provide and deliver, the spokesperson said. The non-profit organization is on a mission to better equip teachers to enable students to learn how to learn – for success in school and life in the 21st century.
In order to help pay for the first VTS course, the founders of Watershed Collaborative recently launched a fundraiser on Kickstarter. There, they hope to raise $40,000 through crowdfunding.
“This Kickstarter campaign will fund our first course in Visual Thinking Strategies for more than a thousand PreK-12 teachers, and help us construct a collaborative community for them to share insights and innovations,” the spokesperson said.
