The non-surgical aesthetics treatment market in the UK is surprisingly unregulated. However, cosmetic treatments provider SkinViva is a company whose success is built on high standards.
Many patients would assume that cosmetic treatments, such as dermal fillers and wrinkle-relaxing injections are subject to control and regulation. After all, procedures which involve an injection might be assumed to be medical.
However, in the UK, that is not yet the case. These are issues which have been raised as concerns in numerous reports, with recommendations made for tighter regulations; but as yet, none have come into force. The procedures can be carried out by anybody, with no training or requirement to be on a register of professionals. Dermal fillers don’t even need a prescription and while there are ethical and insurance-related concerns about carrying out treatments on under 18s, there are no actual laws to protect young patients.
In the meantime, Manchester-based SkinViva’s service is on company whose reputation is built on high standards of clinical excellence. GP and Medical Director, Dr Tim Pearce, leads SkinViva’s team of fully qualified Doctors and Dentists, who have completed additional courses in aesthetics and built up extensive experience.
Dr Tim Pearce explains:
“The recent Nuffield Council report into Bioethics laid down a series of recommendations for better regulating and controlling the aesthetics industry. It suggests banning cosmetic treatment for under 18s, making dermal fillers a prescription-only medicine and bringing in qualifications and registration for those carrying out treatments. However, in doing so it has highlighted the relative lack of progress in this area since concerns about the market were raised in the Keogh report in 2013.
“We welcome and support the recommendations of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics and look forward to seeing standards raised in the industry as a whole. Until such time as regulations, our policy at SkinViva is to behave as if the market were regulated. That means aspiring to the very highest clinical and ethical standards. At SkinViva, patients can expect safe treatments carried out by qualified and experienced Aesthetic Practitioners, as well as excellent results.”
SkinViva is known for offering a range of non-surgical skin treatments, which are carried out by highly trained doctors and dentists who have taken additional courses in aesthetic treatments. The team is led by fully qualified doctor and Clinical Director, Dr Tim Pearce MB ChB BSc (Hons) MRCGP; who has developed a number of techniques shared with the team, which are designed for safe practice and flattering results.
SkinViva was established in 2008 and has built up an excellent reputation for delivering excellent results and high patient satisfaction. They are based in Manchester with their own flagship clinic in the Castlefield area, in addition to which non-surgical skin treatments are available through an extensive network of additional skin treatment clinic locations and referring partners across the North West of England, including Cheshire, Lancashire and Derbyshire.
In 2013 they launched a dedicated skin treatments training school, SkinViva Training, in order to teach best practice skills and techniques to other medical professionals wishing to develop high standards of cosmetic injection skills and knowledge. www.skinvivatraining.com.
