The substantial growth in online fraud and hacker attacks in recent years has caused problems for businesses and customers alike. Over half of all online attacks of this type are targeted at the US, with the UK next on the list at 9%.

In terms of the type of companies targeted, studies suggest that airlines suffer the most attacks, with money transfer services, and electronic sales next. However, small business owners from all types of industry have been advised to make tightening up on their online payment security a priority.

The advice came today fromYourBusinessCoachingClub Founder Craig Ridley in a message to his members on business security measures. As part of this guidance, he also stated that online payment integrity is, “one of the most pressing concerns for any entrepreneur that wants to take their company online without fear of legal problems or being scammed.”

In addition, he pointed out that paying by credit or debit is the main way that clients buy online these days. Yet, accepting eCommerce payments by card can lead to vulnerability to fraud in the form of stolen cards or hacking attempts.

Mr Ridley added that there are some steps that businesses can take in order to make their online payments system more secure against these risks. Among these, he mentioned, “getting an SSL certificate, ensuring that CVV and AVS match on payments, manually reviewing any suspicious payments, and geo-limiting the target audience to the places where customers are expected to come from.
