#SmileEquality Movement Moves Throughout Europe

November 10, 2015 – – Everybody knows that a good dentist is supposed to improve a patient’s smile. However, one leader in the dental industry is taking it a step further.

Dr. Nicolas Porter, President of Nicolas Global and founder of industry leader Risas Dental, has a new passion project called the #SmileEquality Movement, a cause dedicated to bringing smiles to those in need through kind acts, and he’s taking it global.

Fresh off the success of a kindness tour through Peru, Dr. Porter launched the #SmileEquality European Tour. He traveled to five different locations across Europe armed only with the goal of spreading as many smiles as possible. With stops in Wales, France, Spain, and more, Dr. Porter made it a point to provide random acts of kindness all across the continent.

One day he paid his taxi driver, a father of three from a small town outside of London, five times the meter rate. Another day, he bought crepes for the next ten people behind him in line and added extra for the crepe maker, who, with his bicycle transformed into a little crepe business, had a dream to make enough money to visit his family in Venezuela. The next day, while boating near the Spanish Canary Islands, he encountered a young girl and her nanny.

“The girl had never been on a boat before,” Porter explained, “so I invited them aboard to join us for lunch and while the young girl jumped off the boat and then back on the boat, the rest of us had an incredible conversation about life, our love for the Spanish language and how I could impact the misfortune of others. It was incredible to mix with the locals and talk about life as they knew it.”

At the end of lunch and a tour to see some of the islands and understand the terrain and culture, he gave the boat’s captain the biggest tip of his life, aiding him in his quest to get married to his sweetheart that he poured his heart out over the four hour journey together with Porter.

“It doesn’t always have to be something life-affirming,” says Porter. “The goal is simply to make someone happy; to add a little brightness to their day. I truly believe that smiles are contagious. If you can make one person’s day a little better, they’ll make someone else’s day a little better, and so on. Before you know it, something special happens.”

Those who witnessed these interactions claim, “It’s not what Dr. Nicolas gives them in terms of money or help, but that he cares enough to ask important questions and listens with an ear to add value. That’s what makes this movement so special. You will never see someone actively always thinking about ways to make an impact. This is the reason for Porter’s success in business and with the many people he has worked with.”

Dr. Porter founded Risas Dental and Braces in 2011 with an eye on bringing high-quality dental care to communities in need of more affordable prices. Utilizing groundbreaking new systems and serving the local community as “Dr. Nicolas,” Porter captured the attention of an underserved but eager market. Risas quickly grew, and now boasts twelve locations across Arizona and Colorado.

The #SmileEquality Movement is not the first passion project of Dr. Nicolas. Risas Dental, under the direction of Dr. Nicolas, has provided well over a million dollars in free dental care over the past three years through its annual Labor of Love event. In addition, the Healthy Mouth Makeover program, to be extended into the #SmileEquality Movement, provides free dental makeovers for those with serious dental care issues who can’t afford to fix them.

The #Smile Equality Movement is one of many new ventures for Dr. Porter. The good doctor, recently named as one of Phoenix Business Journal’s 25 Most Admired Leaders, has now set his sights on new brands to add to Nicolas Global. Among his family of multi-industry innovation is his current project, which is sure to impact how major corporations train and educate their employees.
