South Dakota IVC Filter Lawsuit Plaintiff Claims Device Fractured And Migrated

July 05, 2016 – – TheProductLawyers.com reports on a lawsuit filed by a woman from South Dakota against C.R. Bard. She claims in her suit that the Eclipse IVC filter she had implanted has fractured and that pieces have migrated to areas deemed too risky for surgeons to remove them. She states that surgeons did try to remove the pieces but were not successful in their attempts to do so. Since the pieces could not be taken out of her body she is now living in constant fear that she could suffer a life-threatening event if the pieces were to move again .

IVC filters are small, cage-like structures that are implanted into patients that cannot take traditional blood-thinning medications. The device is surgically placed into the patient’s vena cava vein and is meant to capture blood clots that may be traveling from the lower body to the heart and lungs. If a blood clot were to reach the heart or lungs, a pulmonary embolism or other serious health complications could result. The blood clots are held in the filter until they naturally dissipate. The filters are meant to be used temporarily until the threat of blood clot formation has passed.

Plaintiffs involved in IVC filter lawsuits across the country also claim that the manufacturers of the devices neglected to adequately warn consumers of the dangerous potential risks associated with their products. Many allege that, like the South Dakota woman, they suffer daily from the effects of fractured and migrated filters.
