St. Louis, MO, United States – April 30, 2016 /PressCable/ —
Tony X., a Twitter user who goes by the handle @Solucity, will be enjoying Game 3 of the NHL Western Conference Semifinals as a guest of the home team, St. Louis Blues. Tony scored the NHL playoff tickets by sharing his discovery of hockey with his followers on Twitter.
Tony was flipping through channels Monday night when he happened upon Game 7 of the series between the Chicago Blackhawks and the St. Louis Blues. He’d never watched hockey before, but the action in the first 45 seconds of the game caught his attention and he started watching. As he watched, he started tweeting his reactions to the game unfolding in front of him. His not-safe-for-work tweets touched a chord with hockey fans everywhere, and by the end of the game, the St. Louis Blues front office had noticed.
“Welcome to Hockey Twitter and #stblues fandom, @soloucity!” they tweeted from the official St. Louis Blues Twitter account. “Want to check out Game 3 live? It’s on us! #WeAllBleedBlue.”
Game 3 will be played May 8 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, where the Blues will be facing the Dallas Stars. Tony X., who had never watched a hockey game before, tweeted back his response with an exuberant, “I’m there!”, adding “should I bring a sweater? It’s a room full of ice, right?”
The expletive-laced Twitter stream has been making the rounds on social media, as well as being noted in sports columns on more traditional media and websites. A number of writers have wondered what would have happened if Tony had happened upon a game with a less dramatic effect. It was the game that led newspaper sportswriters to exclaim, “Hockey the way it should be played,” and name it as an instant classic. The Blues were playing the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks, who had come back from a 3-1 series record to force a seventh game.
“It’s pretty cool watching someone discover the game you love,” said a service rep from SportsTicketBank.com when asked about NHL ticket availability. “That’s what people were responding to. Since the Blues made their offer on Wednesday, we’ve seen a lot of movement on NHL tickets for that particular game,” he added.
“For anyone who’d like to watch the game with Tony, though,” he continued, “we do still have tickets in our inventory, but they may not be there long.”
