Streamlining Business: A New Business Strategy Using Billion Year Old Tactics
May 01, 2015 – –
Ontario-based Enterprise Architect J. WATERMAN spends most of his time optimizing business processes for his clients, in an unusual way. He explains, the best practices are always those which have been time tested for long periods. And what could be older than life itself. Waterman explains;
“Our goal is to evolve the business from Organization to Organism.”
He goes on to say that departments within organization must become the organs of the business. And the staff must become the cells that make up the organs. Cells are masters of their craft, and in the same way, staff should be masters at their task, rather than the mediocre standard that is widely accepted. Once this is established, all the organs of the organization must move with one united mind in order to become an Organism.
The above concepts of streamlining a business have recently been applied with positive results at Iwes Ltd. The company benefited with a 400% drop in production time and has a projected 7 times increase in yield while still maintaining the same number of staff, property and equipment on hand over the following year. J. Waterman explains that streamlining businesses processes are priority over scaling.
“If we tried to scale Iwes Ltd, first to get the same result, it would have increased overhead by at least 400% before realizing a single gain.”
The most convincing example he illustrates for this ancient scaling model is based on the human body. “A Single human cell streamlines itself first, then it scales up to 37 Trillion.” Waterman’s unique concept comes as a result of his 25 years of business experience combined with a passion for the sciences of nutrition, sleep and biology. He claims that companies who don’t follow this principle are highly susceptible to contracting a Chronic “Bizease” which eventually takes them out. According to Bloomberg, 8 out of 10 businesses fail within the first 18 months. An alarming 80% business mortality rate suggests more thought and preparation should be put forth before starting a business.
New entrepreneurs may want to get advice from an Enterprise Architect to help them set up the right business infrastructure from the get go to avoid ending up in the corporate graveyard. A good Enterprise Architect will have a strong understanding of all aspects of business. They promote the use of high-level technology to automate processes, six sigma accuracy to reduce mistakes and dynamic planning to navigate changing environments. Waterman’s processes are currently being documented in his new book “The Business Optimization Blueprint” where he provides step by step instructions on how to Streamline Your Business for Scalability.
