Studies Share That Big Toe Calluses are More Than a Little Problem

June 20, 2016 – – Wilmington, DE – June, 19, 2016–Regardless of one’s occupation or interests chances are at some stage in life a big toe callus will develop. Callus remover sales are currently on the rise with many findings and studies revealing the importance of foot hygiene and removing nasty calluses before any further conditions develop.

Earlier this year Naressa launched their first Electronic Callus Remover after discovering that neglected foot calluses can cause a number of conditions, unwanted pain and also become a ghastly sight. “Naressa customers seem to use the callus remover for a combination of these three points,” shares Naressa spokesperson Natasha Edwards.

One of the conditions a neglected callus can trigger or potentially be hiding is Hallux Limitus. Dr Michael Nirenberg and Dr Tim Dutra from Foot Vitals explain that “Symptoms of this condition come on slowly. You may notice pain only when you are in motion or when you move the big toe joint.”

Hallux limitus develops when the big toe is unable to fully move when stepping forward, which forces it to roll off the toe’s side. When the skin is pinched, it also causes a callus. Pain and numbness often follow when the nerves in the toe are irritated.

Nirenberg and Dutra highlighted in their article a number of symptoms including: a grinding or grating feeling on top of the joint when walking, increase in pain or stiffness in colder temperatures, swelling and inflammation and of course an increase in foot calluses.

Treatment for this condition can vary depending on the severity. Nirenberg and Dutra who specialize it foot health and have dealt with a large number of patients with this condition explained that treatment can range from physical therapy through to surgery.

“Surgery is only performed in severe cases, on patients whose condition has progressed into hallux rigidus, or those who have gotten no pain relief from more conservative treatments,” explained Nirenberg.

The American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons share one of the best things that sufferers can do is use an arch support in the shoes. This will help improve big toe motion, which reduces the risk of it rolling over to the side. Wearing stable shoes can also be helpful as they provide the exceptional stability the feet need.

However Hallux Litimus is not the only problem or condition a callus might be disguising.

A report released by the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle society explained the possible affects of neglecting a callus. The layer of skin can eventually separate from the callus. “In severe cases, the thick and normal skin may separate, exposing the area to possible infection, especially in people with diabetes” the report stated.

With these risks and conditions taken into account using a simple product such as an electric callus remover seems more vital than ever.

Naressa’s electric callus remover, is thought to be extremely helpful in buffing calluses. This product is not just safe and effective to use, but is also inexpensive. It doesn’t just eliminate calluses, but can also serve as an exfoliating tool.

The electric callus remover from Naressa can be an excellent home remedy for calluses. It is even preferred by many individuals over going to nail salons. The electric callus remover is designed to safely and gently remove calluses in the feet, which makes it ideal for individuals with big toe callus and numbness.
