Public Charter Military School Needs Help Continuing to Impact Students.

The California North Valley Military Institute College Preparatory Academy (NVMI) in San Fernando Valley has a huge impact on its students. It educates 570 students who desperately need the structure, discipline, predictability, standards, and academic focus that a military school provides.

Based on the highly successful Oakland Military Institute, founded by Governor Jerry Brown, NVMI serves more than three times the typical number of special education students, high numbers of homeless and foster youth, and a majority of students who have been unsuccessful in other educational settings.

And yet, NVMI gets 100% of it seniors to graduate and 100% accepted to four year college and universities. It produces leaders of character who are equipped with a moral compass to serve our world and make our communities better. And it promotes health, fitness ,and wellness through a robust athletics program.

But all of this costs much more than a typical school. Each cadet gets hundreds of dollars in free uniforms and military uniform accouterments. Cadets receive intensive academic and socio-emotional counseling support far beyond that in typical schools. Special Ed students receive significant additional supports in regular education classrooms. And all of this means NVMI has to raise private funds to supplement the state and federal dollars all schools receive.

Through the four pillars of ACADEMICS, LEADERSHIP, CITIZENSHIP, AND ATHLETICS, NVMI prepares students for successful admission to college, completion of college, and entry into the adult world as leaders of character who make our world a better place, do the right thing, and treat others the way they want to be treated.
