Swedish Architectural Firm Develops New Concept Of Villa Design

January 27, 2016 – –

The Swedish Architectural firm Torrång Arkitektkontor has launched an entirely new concept of villa design and construction combining cost-saving standardisation with very high flexibility in both floor planning and façade using prefabricated concrete elements of sandwich type. Insulation thickness, 300-500 mm, makes it not only the best insulated concrete element villa of its kind but also said to be the most innovative and advanced structure of its kind.

The standard two-storey-house occupies only 88 m2 of the ground allowing it to be built even on very small sites as detached houses or as chain-houses. Total floor area is 147 m2 creating up to 7 rooms. In addition the structure is prepared for up to eight extensions.

An open and free of space stealing corridors and fixed interior walls allows for maximum flexibility. With removable partitions the house owner can easily change the room plan to suit the family through its many stages of life. Thanks to this unique flexibility the number of variations is almost only limited by the fantasy and imagination of the house owner.

The concept contains many functional features, not found in other type houses, such as laundry chute, Winter Garden, unique window locations minimizing the neighbours’ view into your house and at the same time enhancing the house owner’s view through the windows.

Unlike ordinary houses some floor plans care for details that satisfies higher levels of well-being such as a romantic “love-alcove” and a pond. The top of the roof is crowned by an openable top light cupola letting sunlight into the centre of the house. Also useful for speedy ventilation during warm summer days. A hanging crystal prism in the centre of the cupola will project a rainbow spectra on the ceiling and walls during sunny days. Other features are designed with respect to children.

“This new house type combines the low cost advantages of pre-fabrication with the attractiveness of individual design and usage adapted to the needs of each particular house owner,” says architect Ola Torrång.
