Talc Powder Lawsuits Heading To Trial In Missouri
March 27, 2017 – – The fifth in a series of talc powder lawsuits is gearing up for trial in Missouri. The case will be tried in the 22nd Circuit Court in St. Louis, Missouri, and jurors will be assembled beginning on the 10th of April, 2017. This particular case was filed by Lois Slemp who claims that she developed terminal ovarian cancer by using talc based powders manufactured by Johnson & Johnson.
A representative for talcumpowder.org says that this is definitely not a unique case. “There have been literally thousands of cases just like this one filed over the past few years,” he states. “This is just the fifth in a series that is being heard in Missouri. There are thousands more talc powder lawsuits being filed all over the country.”
Lawsuits like Ms. Slemp’s claim that baby powder and Shower to Shower products produced by Johnson & Johnson contain talc, which has been shown to cause ovarian cancer in women when used as feminine hygiene products. Plaintiffs in these cases claim that repeated use, some over decades, of these products eventually led to the development of cancer, and in some cases terminal cancer.
“These complaints cite a number of studies that date back to the 1970’s which show that there is a strong link between the use of talc for feminine hygiene and the development of cancer in those areas,” says the representative for talcumpowder.org. “Our goal is to help consumers to know what these lawsuits are about and to provide resources for those who feel that they may have a claim.”
While there are cases being heard in different states across the nation, Missouri’s 22nd Circuit Court is seeing the majority of the larger litigations. Since early in 2016, four trials have been heard and the fifth is set to begin very soon. The first three trials ended with verdicts for the plaintiffs, to a total of nearly $200 million in restitutions being demanded from the pharmaceutical giant.
There are currently more than 150 cases pending in New Jersey with various others in different states across the nation. The talcumpowder.org representative states that those who feel they may have a claim should begin reaching out to a credible attorney.
