The week of February 15 – 18, 2016 was one to remember as Southside Baptist Church hosted a fellowship of pastors, missionaries and evangelists. Not only were the attendees local to the Tampa area, but the meeting also drew an international crowd including the eleven powerful speakers that came from as far away as Washington State. The purpose of the Global Independent Baptist Fellowship (GIBF) Meeting was for ministry leaders to come together so they may be refreshed and encouraged through preaching and fellowship by sharing their thoughts, visions, and burdens with other like-minded men in the ministry.

With nearly 500 in attendance, the GIBF Meeting was full of some of the brightest minds in leadership of the Baptist denomination as guests gathered to hear dynamic speakers and music, enjoy great food, and network through sharing God’s vision for their individual church homes or ministries. Every message and song throughout the week was saturated with the meeting’s theme which was to “STAND” for the Word of God in their communities.

Notable speakers included Sam Davison, President of Heartland Bible College, Paul Chappell, President of West Coast Baptist College and Pastor at Lancaster Baptist Church. Guests also had the opportunity to hear from honorary speaker, Margaret Stringer. Not only did Stringer do missionary work in the cannibal tribe in Irian Jaya of West Papua (Province of Indonesia), for more than 40 years, but she also helped to establish 23 churches, create a language and alphabet, and translate the New Testament into two different languages. The week of meetings ended with guests enjoying the Florida sunshine through activities such as deep sea fishing, golf, and tasting the local strawberries.

The Global Independent Baptist Fellowship Meeting 2016 was held at Southside Baptist Church Monday, February 15 to Thursday, February 18. Not only did guests describe the meeting as “the power of God being in this place,” but the global meeting also concluded with a renewed vision to stand for Christ among their local communities. The Global Independent Baptist Fellowship Meeting is designed to be a fellowship for Baptist pastors, missionaries and evangelists. The GIBF Meeting aims to share a common goal of encouragement and accomplishment through the Word of God. As pastors come together through networking, dining, and music, they are reminded of what God has called them to do. For more information, visit www.gibf.org.
