Testosterone Lawsuit Alleges AndroGel Caused Heart Attack
August 28, 2015 – – Banville Law reports on a lawsuit that has been filed against AbbVie. Inc and Abbott Laboratories, Inc., which alleges that their popular Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) drug, called AndroGel, proximately caused the plaintiff to suffer certain damages including a heart attack.
The complaint is one many lawsuits which have now been filed against these drug companies and which have been consolidated in a Multidistrict Litigation (MDL) taking place in US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Filed under case number 1:14-cv-00776, this complaint was brought by on behalf of a man who had been prescribed AndroGel for the treatment of symptoms that he had attributed to low testosterone after having seen the defendants’ advertisements for AndroGel.
According to the case, the plaintiff had taken AndroGel as prescribed and alleges that the use of AndroGel caused him to suffer a heart attack, as well as other physical and emotional damages.
Additionally, the lawsuit notes that the plaintiff did not have any prior history of the cardiac events that were allegedly caused by AndroGel.
As a result, the plaintiff seeks compensation for certain economic and noneconomic damages that resulted from his use of AndroGel.
Among other allegations, the lawsuit brings charges against AbbVie Inc. and Abbott Laboratories, Inc. for their failure to warn the public about significant risks which the companies had known about or should have known about.
Additionally, this particular case alleges that the defendants had misrepresented AndroGel with regard to the drug’s safety and effectiveness, with the intention of increasing prescriptions of the drug.
