Texas Man Sustains 3rd-Degree Burns From E-Cigarette Explosion, Sparks Potential E-Cig Lawsuit Cases
June 19, 2016 – – Marc Freund of LipsigLawyers.com comments on a recent e-cigarette explosion that occurred in Sulphur, Louisiana, that left the Texas resident with second and third-degree burns on his left leg. Freund states that e-cig explosions have increased in number on a monthly basis since the products were introduced to the public in 2007 and that in most cases individuals are not warned of the potential risks of the devices.
According to a local report by 12NewsNow.com, the Texas man was at work in Louisiana when all of a sudden he saw smoke emptying from his pants due to his e-cig exploding. The victim immediately went into “panic mode” and co-workers rushed him to a nearby shower. Shortly after, the man was rushed to West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital where he received surgery and was informed that he had sustained second and third-degree burns to his left thigh. The victim claims that “the device was turned off at the time,” which has led him to believe his e-cigarette malfunctioned.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) previously stated that there had been 25 reported e-cigarettes, however, TheProductLawyers.com have provided a more comprehensive timeline of e-cigarettes explosions. They indicate that after accounting for this case, there have been 196 e-cigarette explosions since 2009. Those numbers include 9 e-cigarette explosions solely in May of 2016, along with 3 which already occurred in the month of June.
