The Canadian Institute of Hair and Scalp Specialists (www.CanadianHair.ca), a Toronto-based organization offering hair loss treatment for over 25 years, is weighing in on a man’s experience using Tinder after receiving a hair transplant.

A man named Richard King has reported on an experiment he did to see how his hair affects his success when using Tinder, a popular dating app. King, who was balding, says that after receiving a hair transplant, his Tinder matches increased by 75%, with a much larger number of women choosing to connect with him for dates. “Hair plays a huge role in appearances and looks,” says Ken Robson, founder of the Canadian Institute of Hair and Scalp Specialists. “There’s unfortunately a stigma attached to balding in society that associates a full head of hair with youth and virility. This can have an impact on a person’s dating life and relationships.”

According to King, he created two different dating profiles, one which featured him with thinning hair and one with pictures of him after receiving a hair transplant. The “thinning hair” profile matched with 116 women, but with the profile featuring a full head of hair, his matches rose to 203.

“Many men report that they get very different reactions from other people after having hair transplants,” Robson notes. “There’s a lot of research also showing that appearances can have a big effect not just on one’s dating life, but also on a person’s career, social life, and other things of that nature. It’s an unfortunate reality that people judge based on appearances.”

King says that he suffered from balding for many years, although he tried to cover up his hair loss with styling techniques. He also suffered from self-esteem issues, but avoided hair transplants, as he felt like they were for old or rich men.

“Hair transplants are the most effective hair loss treatment available today,” notes Robson. “These treatments have really advanced quite a bit, with it now being possible to regain a full head of naturally growing hair. There’s still a stigma that these treatments are only for wealthy people, but they’re more accessible now than ever before.”

After suffering from low confidence, King says he finally decided on hair transplant surgery after receiving too many comments about his high hairline or older-looking appearance. The results of the 10-day Tinder experiment confirmed for him that he made the right choice.

“There’s really no reason for anyone to suffer with hair loss anymore,” Robson concludes. “There are more treatment options than ever before, hair transplants are incredibly effective, and for people with lesser hair loss, topical shampoos and other treatments can also make a big difference. The important thing is to take action and get help from a specialist to see what options will work best for each individual.”

The Canadian Institute of Hair and Scalp Specialists is the leading provider of treatment for hair loss. It offers its clients a number of options, ranging from hair transplant surgery to topical hair treatments.
