The Cancer Journeys Foundation Announces Its New Drive for Cancer Survivors Program on National Cancer Survivor Day

June 03, 2016 – – Donors get behind the wheel of a Mazda race car to support cancer survivors.

Manhattan Beach, California – The Cancer Journeys Foundation announced their new “Drive for Cancer Survivors” Program. Drive for Cancer Survivors puts donors behind the wheel of a Mazda MX-5 Miata on a local Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) autocross course where they drive CJF’s Miata through an obstacle course against the clock. The program raises funds to support the CJF’s cancer support and prevention programs. The Drive for Cancer Survivors program takes place every month at Southern California autocross sites. The CJF created the autorcorss program to raise funds to support cancer survivors and to introduce cancer survivors to it’s annual Tour de USA® for cancer survivors.

“Southern California is a car culture and we wanted to connect this culture with the strong American culture of charity giving. Our autocross program provides a unique experience to individuals and companies that join the donor program. Drivers get an opportunity to drive a Mazda MX-5, which is the most raced car in the county, on a closed course,” said Robert Hess, Cancer Journeys Foundation founder and prostate cancer survivor. “We chose the Mazda Miata because of its great handling and the sheer joy it provides to people that drive it – as well as it’s durability and low cost of ownership,” said Hess.

Said Hess, “There are 14 million cancer survivors living in the United States and another person beginning their cancer journey every 19 seconds. Donors can play a key role in supporting cancer survivors by joining our Drive for Cancer Survivors program, and have a blast while doing it.”
