The Dettlaff Family Foundation proudly announces Karla Dettlaff was chosen among 7,000 other people to spend three days at the White House leading her own team to decorate 55 trees. The foundation appreciates this great honor, as it allows them to spread their message far and wide. It was established to give back to the community and to help those children who were not given a fair chance at life and this wonderful opportunity allows them to share their mission with others.

“President Benjamin Harrison was the first to place a Christmas tree in the White House back in 1889. The tree was placed in the Second Floor Oval Room, which they used as a family parlor and library. This tradition continues today, although every family determines whether they wish to have a tree or forego it for the year. This often depends on the presence of children and grandchildren in the residence over the holiday period, Karla Dettlaff, spokesperson for The Dettlaff Family Foundation, explains.

According to Business Insider, hundreds of trees were placed throughout the White House to commemorate the holiday season. A great deal of attention was placed on the red trees Melania Trump chose to be displayed in the East Colonnade. However, trees were found in numerous other locations throughout the building.

“This year’s theme was American Treasures and every tree was created to celebrate patriotism while honoring elements of the country’s heritage. We were thrilled to be chosen to participate in this event and hope to be asked again in the future. We truly consider this to be an honor”, Dettlaff continues.

Ms. Dettlaff states Christmas is one of her favorite seasons, if not her favorite. She is an architect and interior designer and was thrilled to be able to share her talent with the staff at the White House. Over a three-day period, Ms. Dettlaff and her team handled ornaments from the 1970s, determining how best to place them on the trees they were responsible for decorating.

“Having relocated to the United States 14 years ago from Columbia, I never thought I would be part of a grand tradition such as this. It truly is part of the American dream and I cannot say how thrilled I am to have been selected. Everyone here at The Dettlaff Family Foundation is excited about this opportunity I had, but nobody more than me,” Dettlaff states.
