The Green Driving Challenge, a Real World Game About Eco-Driving, Announces Official Launch
The Game Helps Drivers Reduce Their Emissions and Save Money
LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / April 1, 2016 / The Green Driving Challenge is a new real world game that helps drivers lower gas costs, cut down on C02 emissions, and learn how to drive more safely with less environmental impact.
The game works by plugging a small scanner into the OBD port in the user’s vehicle. The scanner then connects to an app on the user’s smart phone where trips are recorded for average speed, fuel used, and miles driven. When the trip is complete, the app connects to the GDC website where the trip data is processed; showing the user what their score was on that particular day.
The point of the game is to beat the vehicle’s stated average fuel consumption, and to outdo the average ratings of previous trips. The fun factor comes with the challenge to eco-drive as effectively as possible, and to see all the money that can be saved by driving intelligently.
“We define eco-driving as having three main pillars: vehicle maintenance, driving style, and crash avoidance,” says the website. “Eco-drivers also aim to avoid unnecessary idling and rapid acceleration, and try to maintain reasonable and consistent speeds.”
The game was created by serial environmentalist Scott Osberg, who dreamed up GDC after doing injury prevention and traffic safety research for 20 years. He knew that people are more likely to commit to something fun and a challenging, and with that, the “gaming” concept of the device was born.
Scott and his team have already invested heavily into The Green Driving Challenge, and they are asking fellow environmentalists for a helping hand to bring the product to more mobile platforms (the game is currently only available on Android).
The team has brought the project to Kickstarter, and they have already raised almost $3,000 of their $15,000 goal.
Scott knows that with a little education, and a lot of fun, the game can do what it was designed to do- help save the environment and stop global warming.
