Celebrating Excellence in the Haitian Community.

July 27, 2019

New York- Jean Paul Laurent has been named as Ones To Watch to The 1804 List of other incredible Haitian American Changemakers in the United States by The Haitian Roundtable, and will be inducted along 29 other recipients from across the nation during a ceremony on November 9, 2019 at the New York Academy Of Medicine.

Inspired by the bright and unwavering, but deteriorating, smiles of young children in Haiti in the wake of the devastating earthquake, and motivated by the desire to improve and maintain the oral health of those smiles, Jean Paul created the Unspoken Smiles Foundation to tell the unspoken stories behind those smiles.

Since its inception in 2014, Jean Paul have grown Unspoken Smiles Foundation into a reputable and impactful nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting both long-term oral health and economic security in the world’s most disadvantaged regions in Haiti, India, Romania, El Salvador, Guatemala, USA, Iraqi Kurdistan, and most recently the Dominican Republic. The Foundation provides early oral health treatment and education for children, and dental assistance fellowships to young local women with otherwise inadequate earning opportunities, empowering them with a sustainable career in Dentistry.

“Building on the success of past initiatives where we served nearly 7,000 children in 8 countries across 4 continents, the year 2019 will mark a pivotal point for our growth at Unspoken Smiles Foundation. That’s why I am rolling out the biggest call-to-action effort our organization has ever seen – to train 10,000 fellows over the next 11 years.” Said Jean Paul Laurent, Founder and CEO

Induction into the 1804 List serves as Jean Paul’s first official recognition by the Haitian-American diaspora community. In the past, Jean Paul’s philanthropic achievements have garnered recognition from a variety of prestigious organizations including the MIPAD 100, United Nations, Clinton Foundation, American Express, City Tech, NYN Media, TEDx, Ashoka, and NYU Alumni.

The 1804 List, named for the year Haiti gained independence, acknowledges and celebrates the hard work, innovation, and philanthropy of Haitian Americans.
