The Maritime Alliance Partners With Leading French BlueTech Cluster
January 26, 2016 – –
SAN DIEGO – The Maritime Alliance (TMA) announced a partnership with Pôle Mer Méditerranée (PMM), a leading BlueTech Cluster in France, to promote international collaboration and economic development. The two associations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that describes how the clusters will work together to incubate, promote and support BlueTech companies. Over 200 attendees representing academia, government and industry from Canada, France, Ireland, the UK and US witnessed the signing ceremony, which was a highlight of the 7th Annual BlueTech & Blue Economy Summit hosted by The Maritime Alliance in November 2015.
“We expect many positive outcomes as a result of this partnership with the French,” said Greg Murphy, Executive Director of The Maritime Alliance. “Our member companies will benefit from increased B2B interactions with one of Europe’s most active BlueTech clusters, and we are already seeing those interactions result in significant business opportunities.”
As part of this partnership, Marilou Suc – a French citizen and employee of Pôle Mer Méditerranée – will serve a 1-year internship in San Diego with The Maritime Alliance. She will support international collaboration and help survey the San Diego ocean and water technology community to find opportunities for business with French companies.
Stephane Claisse, Deputy Director of Pôle Mer Méditerranée, said “I am very proud to create this partnership with The Maritime Alliance, which is the first of its kind for the PACA region and a continuation of the historic link between our two regions. TMA arranged a series of meetings for our companies in November and provided introductions that have developed into valuable business opportunities. We look forward to strengthening our connections to San Diego’s BlueTech cluster through The Maritime Alliance and continuing to partner on BlueTech events.”
In March, TMA is coordinating an informal trade mission to Toulon, France for meetings with senior officials and business executives organized by PMM. The mission will take place immediate following Oceanology International – the world’s largest ocean science and technology trade show in London – where TMA will be exhibiting March 15-17, 2016 and hosting a town hall discussion on “Clusters, Collaboration & a Common Blue Voice.”
