The Urifunnel was created by the parents of a special needs son, who would have trouble using the restroom without spilling. The family searched the Internet for a device that could assist their son in the bathroom, but nothing of the sort existed.

It was then that the Urifunnel was born. The Urifunnel is a plastic sheet of medical grade plastic that when rolled into a cone turns into a funnel. It sits upright in the toilet, and catches any stray urine as it funnels it into the toilet below.

“Even when he was young, we knew our son with special needs was going to have trouble using the bathroom independently,” says Jorge Escudero, the father of Gaby. “Puberty didn’t make it any easier. Cleaning, wiping, and mopping the bathroom seven times a day became a daunting task. The Urifunnel was created for our son’s benefit because we desperately needed something to help us limit the spillage in the bathroom and surrounding areas. As they say, ‘Necessity is the mother of invention,’ and that certainly held true in our case.”

The Urifunnel is ideal for special needs boys, the elderly, people recovering from surgery, wounded veterans, as well as the seeing impaired.

The Urifunnel comes in 3 different sizes, and is easily assembled with four snaps that connect at the bottom. The dimensions of the funnel make it suitable for use with any type of toilet, even those with risers, toilets that need to be straddled by a walker, or bedside commodes.

When not in use, the Urifunnel is either laid in the bathtub, or it can be stood upright in the holder which is sold separately. A spray bottle quickly cleans the device, which is made of medical grade plastic.

Having originally created the product for their son, the Escudero family was shockedby the demand for such a device in the medical and caregiver communities. Today, the Urifunnel is used in retirement homes, hospitals, and by caregivers who are tired of spending their time wiping up bathroom floors that are not only unsanitary, but that pose a slipping hazard as well.

The Escuderos have taken their product to the pages of Indiegogo where they hope to raise the funds necessary to bring the Urifunnel to a wider audience.
